How to print a test and make flashcards from it

Every test can become paper worksheets, puzzles and revision games. Print the whole test, a crossword, a word search, a match-up or cut-out cards with an answer key, or flip through flashcards and play pairs with the class.

How to print a test and make flashcards from it

Print a test or a puzzle

  1. Step 1: Open “Print”

Go to “Tests”, click “Use with class” next to the test and choose “Print”.

  2. Step 2: Choose what to print

Under “What to print” choose “Whole test”, “Crossword”, “Word search”, “Match-up” or “Cut-out cards”. If an option can't be made from your questions, it tells you what it needs.

  3. Step 3: Make another version

Click “Another version” for a new layout; for the whole test it shuffles the answer options. The page link keeps the version, so the answer key always matches the sheets you printed.

  4. Step 4: Add the answer key

Turn on “Answer key”. It prints on a separate page, for you and not for students.

  5. Step 5: Click “Print or save as PDF”

Your browser's print window opens. Print it or choose to save it as a PDF.

Revise with flashcards

  1. Step 1: Open “Flashcards”

On the test's page choose “Flashcards”. The question is on the front and the right answer on the back.

  2. Step 2: Flip and sort each card

Tap the card (or press Space) to flip it, then choose “I know it” or “Still learning”. On a phone, swipe right or left.

  3. Step 3: Practise what's left

At the end, practise just the cards still learning or start again with all cards. “Shuffle” mixes the deck and “Full screen” fills the projector.

Play pairs

  1. Step 1: Open “Pairs”

On the test's page choose “Pairs”.

  2. Step 2: Choose the game and the number of pairs

Pick “Match up” (all cards face up) or “Memory” (cards face down), choose the “Number of pairs” and click “Start”.

  3. Step 3: Beat your best time

Time and moves are counted, and your best result is shown so the class can try to beat it.

Questions

Which questions can become flashcards?

Questions with a right answer. Polls, word clouds and open answers are left out.

Why can't I print a crossword?

A crossword needs at least three questions whose answer is one word of 3 to 14 letters. A word search needs at least two one-word answers.

Which questions work in pairs?

Short answer, number and single-choice questions. You need at least two of them with different answers.

How is this different from the printables in Classroom tools?

These are made from your test's questions. The printables in Classroom tools are made from words or names you type in.
