A classroom traffic light shows students what’s expected at a glance: red means stop and look at the teacher, amber means finish what you’re doing, green means off you go. Project it full screen and switch the light with one tap, the 1–3 keys or a wireless presenter while you move around the room. Add your own short text to each light, such as “Work quietly”, stand it upright or lying down, and play a sound when it changes. Switch to work mode signs to show Silent work, Whisper voices, Talk with a partner, Ask three, then me or Tidy up time.
How to use it
- 1Choose Traffic light or Work mode signs, and add your own text to each light if you like.
- 2Tap a light or a sign — or press 1, 2, 3 and the arrow keys.
- 3Press Full screen so it’s visible from every desk.
Ideas for your classroom
- Signal voice levels: red for silence, amber for whispers, green for group talk.
- Show when students may get up, use devices or ask for help.
- Put up “Ask three, then me” during independent work.
- Run calm transitions: amber to finish, red to look up, green to move.
- Pair it with the timer so students see both the rule and the time left.
Questions teachers ask
Is the classroom traffic light free?
Yes. It’s free, with no account, and it works offline once the page has opened.
Can I change what each light means?
Yes. Type a short text for red, amber and green, for example “Work quietly” — it appears with that light.
Can I use it together with the timer?
Yes. Open the timer in another tab, or press “Put it on a classroom screen” to combine both on one board.
Can I change the signs from across the room?
Yes, with a wireless presenter or keyboard: arrow keys change the sign and 1–3 set the light.
Can it play a sound when the light changes?
Yes. Turn on “Play a sound when it changes” so students notice even when they’re not looking.
Does it work on an interactive board?
Yes. Every button is large enough to tap directly on the board.
