Fill in the blank generator — printable cloze worksheet
A fill in the blank generator turns any text into a cloze worksheet in seconds. Paste a paragraph from your lesson and put [brackets] around the words you want students to fill in — or leave the brackets out and the generator blanks every few longer words for you, with a setting for how many. Each gap gets a number and a line sized to the missing word. Add a shuffled word bank for younger students or leave it out for a harder test, and print the answer key on its own page. It works with any language, because the tool simply removes the words you choose.
How to use it
- 1Paste your text and put [brackets] around the words to blank out.
- 2Choose a word bank and an answer key page.
- 3Print the worksheet or save it as a PDF.
Ideas for your classroom
- Check reading comprehension with key words from the text removed.
- Practise grammar: blank out verbs, articles or prepositions.
- Review science or history vocabulary in context.
- Make a song-lyrics or poem cloze for a language lesson.

Then every few words of four letters or more are blanked. Use the setting to make the gaps closer together or further apart.
Can I add a word bank?
