Sentence scramble generator — printable worksheet, free
A sentence scramble generator mixes up the words of each sentence so students have to put them back in the right order — great practice for word order, grammar and reading. Type your sentences, one per line. Each sentence is shuffled until its order is different, and the words appear in boxes with a line underneath to write the sentence correctly. By default the capital letter and the final full stop are removed so they don’t give the start and the end away; switch them on as hints for beginners. Print the worksheet with an answer key page, and press “Another version” for a new shuffle.
How to use it
- 1Type your sentences, one per line.
- 2Choose whether the capital letter and full stop stay as hints.
- 3Print the worksheet with or without the answer key.
Ideas for your classroom
- Practise word order in English or a world language.
- Rebuild key sentences from a story the class has read.
- Teach question forms and negatives in ESL lessons.
- Make a quick early-finisher or homework sheet.

Is the sentence scramble generator free? Do I need an account?
It’s free and needs no account. Your sentences stay in your browser.
Can a sentence stay in the right order by accident?
No. The words are shuffled again until the order differs from your sentence.
Why are the capital letter and full stop removed?
They would show which word comes first and last. Switch on “Keep the capital letter and the full stop” to give beginners that hint.
How many sentences fit on a page?
Up to 30 sentences can go on one worksheet; 8–12 short sentences fit nicely on one page.
Can students unscramble sentences online?
Yes, in Edform: the ordering question puts words or steps in order and checks the answer automatically, in quizzes and worksheets. Sign-up is free.
