Grade calculator

Enter the student’s points.

Proportional conversion: points ÷ maximum × top grade, rounded; the lowest grade is 1. Letters: A 90%+, B 80%+, C 70%+, D 60%+, F below. If your school uses a different rule, follow it.

Grade calculator for teachers — points to grade

A grade calculator turns a test score into a percentage and a grade, so marking a stack of papers takes minutes instead of an evening. Enter the maximum points and a student’s score to see the percentage and the grade on your scale: out of 5, 10, 12, 20 or 100, or letters A–F. Open the full table to see the grade for every possible score at once — handy to keep beside the pile. Two more calculators find the average, median, lowest and highest of a list of grades, and what percentage one number is of another.

How to use it

  1. 1Enter the test’s maximum points and choose your grade scale.
  2. 2Type a student’s points — or open the full table for the whole class.
  3. 3Switch to Average to paste grades and get the mean and median.

Ideas for your classroom

  • Keep the full table beside you while marking a stack of tests.
  • Check the class average and median after a unit test.
  • Work out what percentage of the homework a student handed in.
  • Convert quiz points to your school’s grade scale before entering them.

Questions teachers ask

Is the grade calculator free?

Yes. It’s free, with no account, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How is the grade calculated?

Proportionally: points ÷ maximum × the top grade of your scale, rounded to the nearest whole grade. Letters use the common 90/80/70/60% cut-offs.

Can I see the grade for every score at once?

Yes. Open “Full table” to list every possible score with its percentage and grade.

My school uses different thresholds. Can I still use it?

Use the percentage column with your school’s rules — the calculator shows the exact percentage for every score.

Can it average grades with decimals?

Yes. Both 7.5 and 7,5 are understood.
