Cookie policy
The cookies and on-device storage Edform uses (only necessary ones), embedded content from YouTube and others, and how to change your choices.
Last updated: October 14, 2026
The short version
- Edform sets only the cookies it needs to work: signing in, your language, and your privacy choices.
- No advertising cookies, no analytics or tracking cookies, and no data brokers.
- Videos and pages embedded from other services, like YouTube, can set their own cookies. Where the law asks for consent, they load only after you allow them.
What cookies and on-device storage are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. "Local storage" is a similar place in the browser where a page can keep settings.
- Edform uses both to keep you signed in and to remember settings of tools you use on your device.
- Necessary cookies and storage don't need consent under EU and UK law, because Edform can't work without them, or because you asked for what they save.
Cookies Edform sets
All of these are necessary. None is used for advertising or tracking.
| Name | What it's for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| edform_session | Keeps you signed in. Only a hash of it is stored on our side | 30 days after last use |
| edform_guest | A random code, so a guest can return to the same game or homework | 1 year |
| edform_oauth_state, edform_oauth_pending | Protects signing in with Google | 10 minutes |
| EDFORM_LOCALE | The language you chose | 1 year |
| edform_ref | The invite code from a teacher's invite link, so both teachers get their reward | Until you sign up, at most 30 days |
| edform_consent | Your cookie choices | 6 months |
| edform_cr | Whether the cookie banner applies where you are (from your country, without storing your IP address) | Until you close the browser |
Settings saved on your device
Some tools save your settings in your browser, so they're there next time. This data stays on the device and isn't sent to us:
- class lists, seating plans, groups, scores and timers in classroom tools;
- screen editor clipboard and recent stickers;
- game sound on or off, and team game setups;
- checklist ticks in AI materials;
- the help chat conversation, until you close the tab.
On a shared classroom computer, remove all of this with Settings → Clear this device, or with your browser's "clear site data".
Embedded content from other services
Teachers can add content from other services. Each service has its own privacy policy, and when its content loads, it can see your IP address and may set cookies.
| Service | Used for |
|---|---|
| YouTube (Google) | Videos in video lessons, slides and classroom screens. Loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode |
| Vimeo | Videos |
| Google Docs and Google Drive | Documents on classroom screens |
| Other websites | Pages a teacher embeds on a classroom screen |
How Edform handles this:
- In the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland and Brazil: embedded content loads only after you allow it, in the cookie banner or for one video at a time.
- Everywhere else: it loads by default. Turn it off any time in Cookie settings.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends this signal, embedded content stays off until you choose.
How to change your choices
- Cookie settings: use the link at the bottom of every page, or Settings → Cookie settings in the app.
- Your browser: you can block or delete cookies there. If you block necessary cookies, you won't be able to sign in.
