  2. President's Day Lesson Ideas

  3. By Edform Team

President's Day in the United States is a great occasion to remember the country's history and traditions. In Virginia, it is celebrated as the birthday of George Washington, who was actually born on February 22. The rest of the states call it "President's Day." The U.S. Congress declared the third Monday of February in the 1970s as the first federal holiday

Interactive Ideas for the Lesson

It is a day off for many people, and children can spend time with their families. However, it is a great reason to remind children about the United States' first president despite the holiday. Schools can have themed lessons on actual George Washington's birthday on February 22.

  1. Projects

Divide students into several groups and assign them a creative project.

For instance, it might be a poster with the significant events of G. Washington's life or his accomplishments in facts. Don't limit students to being creative; let it be a project that makes them want to do it.

They can also prepare a photo or video series or do a theatrical skit. Help them with the script and pick out costumes. All students in the class can take part in such a project.

  1. Interactive assignments

Don't forget that even holidays can be presented incorrectly and make a student bored. Interactive assignments are designed to solve this problem. Add videos, open-ended questions, audio and video answers to worksheets to diversify the dry text.

We have prepared a list of ready-to-use interactive worksheets to help you with your online or offline lesson.

Reading Comprehension Worksheets

Want your student to know more about the holiday and George Washington life path? These worksheets can serve the best at the beginning of the lesson and as a part of homework.

Summing up Worksheets

To check how your students accumulated the information about President's Day and George Washington himself, give them this worksheet with one task. Let them write a reflection on what they have heard in the lesson and what they knew before.

Give your students freedom of action and the opportunity to express themselves by doing different projects.
