Name tent cards for desks — free printable maker

Name tent cards are folded desk cards that show a student’s name both to you at the front and to the student sitting behind it. Paste your class list, or use your saved one, and get one fold-in-half tent per page with each name printed large on both halves. The top half is printed upside down, so after folding the name reads the right way on both sides. Add an optional caption such as the class or subject. Name tents help you learn names in the first week, help substitute teachers all year, and work for meetings and parent evenings too.

How to use it

  1. 1Paste the names, one per line, or use your class list, and add an optional caption.
  2. 2Print — each card fills one page.
  3. 3Cut along the dashed lines and fold each card in half.

Ideas for your classroom

  • Learn names quickly in the first weeks of school.
  • Help substitute teachers and visitors call students by name.
  • Set out tents for a new seating plan and let students find their seat.
  • Print tents for a parent evening or a staff meeting.

Questions teachers ask

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It’s free and needs no account. Names stay in your browser.

Why is one name upside down?

So that after folding, the name reads the right way up on both sides of the tent.

What paper works best?

Thicker paper or card stands up best, but normal printer paper works too.

Can I use my saved class list?

Yes. If you’ve saved a class list in a classroom tool, tap “Use” with its name next to the names box. The cards keep the order of the list.

Can I add the class or subject?

Yes. Type it in “Caption under the name” and it appears on every card.
