Verbs in the simple present tense express actions that are done everyday or regularly. Everyday, every morning, often, once a month, and always are some of the expressions used to express simple present tense. In sentences, verb should agree with its subject in number and in tense. In simple present tense with a singular subject, uses the -s form of the verb. A plural subject uses the base form of the verb. For verbs ending in y, change y to I and add -es. Examples: 1. Mother cooks in the kitchen every morning. 2. Mother and I cook in the kitchen every morning. 3. Fly carries germs. 4. Flies carry germs. 2. Simple Past Tense of the verb expresses an action that happened in the past. Last week, yesterday, early this morning, a while ago, a moment ago are some expressions that indicate past actions. The past tense of regular verb is written in the following ways. 1. Add -ed to the verb. Example: wash + -ed = washed 2. Add -d to the verbs that end with e Example: bake + -d + baked 3

3. For one syllable -verbs with short vowel sounds, double the last consonant and add -ed. Example: hug + g + ed = hugged 4. For verbs ending in a consonant and y, change y to i and add -ed. Example: cry – y + i + ed = cried 3. Future Tense of the verb expresses an action that has yet to happen. The words tomorrow, next week, on Saturday, and next year are some of the time expressions used to indicate the future tense. Here are two ways to write in the future tense. 1. will or shall + base form of the verb Examples: 1. Mary will go to the province tomorrow. 2. We shall take a bus to La Union. 2. be verb + going to + base form of the verb Example: They are going to attend online classes. You may now start answering the activities below.
