Electrostatics

electrostatics is the study about electric charges and its interactions.

Charge is

scalar

Additive,  Q =q1+q2+…

Conserved,

Quantized, Q= ne

Like charge repels and unlike charges attract.

The charge, q, of any object can be expressed in terms of the sum of the number of protons, Np, minus the sum of the number of electrons, Ne, that make up the object:q=e(Np-Ne)

  1. electric materials : -

Insulators- materials that do not conduct electricity

    Conductors- materials that conduct electricity

Semiconductors- materials that conduct electricity partially.

Superconductors are materials that have zero resistance

  2. An electroscope is a scientific device that is used to detect the presence of an electric charge on a body.

    The electroscope consists of

    i.a plate (near the top),

ii. a support stand (which connects to the plate and extends through the center of the scope), and

iii. two metallic leaves which rests upon the support stand and is free to rotate about its pivot.

An electroscope gives an observable response when it is charged.
