How to make materials from any web page with the Chrome extension

The free Edform extension for Chrome turns what you're reading into teaching material. Click it on an article, a PDF, a YouTube video or a few paragraphs you selected, pick a tool such as a quiz, flashcards or a lesson plan, and Edform opens with your material already filled in.

Install it

  1. Step 1: Add it to Chrome

Open the Chrome extension page on edform.com and press “Add to Chrome, it's free”, then confirm in the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Step 2: Pin it

Click the puzzle piece in Chrome's toolbar, then the pin next to Edform, so it is always one click away.

Make a material

  1. Step 1: Open what you want to teach

An article, a Wikipedia page, a PDF, a YouTube video, or a few paragraphs you select.

  2. Step 2: Click the Edform icon

The popup shows what it will use (page, selection, PDF or video) and the tools that fit it, starting with the ones you use most. Pick a quiz, flashcards, slides, a lesson plan, a worksheet or any other AI tool.

  3. Step 3: Check it and use it

Edform opens with your material already filled in. Choose the grade and create it, then edit, print, download or give it to your class.

Shortcuts

  1. Step 1: Right-click menu

Right-click a page, a selection or a link and choose Edform AI: quiz, flashcards, slides, lesson plan and more.

  2. Step 2: Keyboard

Alt+Shift+Q makes a quiz from the page or your selection. Alt+Shift+E opens Edform.

  3. Step 3: Address bar

Type “edform”, a space and a topic, like “lesson plan volcanoes”, to start from a topic.

  4. Step 4: PDF button and classroom tools

Any PDF in Chrome gets an Edform button (you can turn it off in the extension's settings). The popup also opens the timer, name picker, group maker, noise meter, spinner wheel and scoreboard.

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. The extension is free. AI tools use AI points: the free Basic plan includes 5 a month and Pro includes 300.

What does it read?

Only the tab you're on, and only when you click the Edform icon, use the right-click menu, press the shortcut or click the PDF button. It sends that page's text, your selection, the PDF or the video link to edform.com and nowhere else.

Which pages don't work?

Chrome's own pages, like settings and the Chrome Web Store, can't be read by any extension. Scanned PDFs without a text layer don't work either: take photos of them and use the Photo tab in AI tools. YouTube videos need captions or a long description.

Does it work on a school Chromebook?

Yes, it's a regular Chrome extension. If your school manages Chromebooks, your IT admin may need to allow it.
